About ScoreSunrise
Predict sunrise quality. Skip the disappointment.
Why This Exists
You've been there: alarm goes off at 5:30am, you drag yourself to the beach, and the sunrise is… grey. Flat. Underwhelming. You could've stayed in bed.
We built ScoreSunrise because sunrise quality is predictable—it's just atmospheric physics. The right cloud setup, humidity, wind direction, and visibility combine to create either magic or disappointment.
Most weather apps tell you it'll be "partly cloudy." Cool. Will it look good? That's what we answer.
Data Sources
Current Coverage
Locations:
- Sydney Eastern Suburbs (Bondi to Maroubra)
- Sydney Northern Beaches (Manly to Palm Beach)
- Cronulla & Southern Beaches
Forecast range: 3 days ahead
Update frequency: Every 60 minutes
We check conditions 20km offshore (out over the ocean) because that's where sunrise light interacts with the atmosphere before reaching you.
Known Limitations
Microclimates: Localised fog or clouds can form that weather models miss. If you're in a valley or right on the coast, conditions might vary.
Rapid changes: Weather can shift faster than forecasts update. We refresh every 60 minutes, but occasionally you'll get surprised.
Subjective beauty: Our scores are analytical, not artistic. A 55/100 sunrise might still blow you away depending on your perspective and mood.
Accuracy: Based on feedback, we're hitting around 80% accuracy for scores above 70 and below 30. The middle range (40–60) is harder to predict—conditions can swing either way.
